Balayage should grow out like it belongs to you, not like a line you have to hide. Ours is hand-painted to soften into your roots, so you spend less time in the chair and more time loving your hair.

Allure has colored Libertyville since 1996, and Salon Today has named us a Top 200 salon every year from 2016 to 2024. Owner Shelly Malizola built the salon on one idea: accessible, everyday luxury.

Why balayage at Allure

Aveda color, painted by hand

Balayage is freehand. No foils, no cap, no single formula. It comes down to the eye of your colorist and the color in the bowl. Two things we do differently:

  • We paint for the grow-out, placing color for how your hair actually moves, so month four still looks intentional instead of overdue.
  • We color with Aveda, clean and low-ammonia, finished with a gloss that keeps your blonde or brunette bright between visits.

What to expect

From consultation to a color you can live in

  1. Consultation. We read your hair's history and your goal photo, then tell you honestly what is a one-visit result and what is a plan.
  2. Hand-painting. Color placed by hand, lightest where the light would hit, blended so there is no hard line.
  3. Gloss and tone. An Aveda gloss sets the exact shade and keeps brass away.
  4. Cut and plan. A finish and a real maintenance plan, including when to come back for a gloss versus a full paint.
Balayage versus highlights
Balayage vs. highlights

Which one fits your hair, and your calendar?

Highlights (foils) give bold, even lift and a defined regrowth line, great for high-contrast looks you are happy to maintain on a tighter schedule. Balayage gives a softer, blended result that grows out gently.

Not sure which suits you? That is what the consultation is for. See our full hair color and highlights options, or ask about adding hair extensions for length under the color.

More than balayage

A full-color salon, and a Green Circle one

Balayage is a signature, but Allure is a full-service color salon: dimensional brunettes, lived-in blondes, gray blending, and color corrections that undo someone else's work. We are also a Green Circle Salon, so up to 95 percent of the color, foil, and hair we use is recovered and kept out of landfills.

Balayage questions, answered

Where can I find a good hair colorist near me in Libertyville?

Allure Designs is at 521 N Milwaukee Avenue in downtown Libertyville, an Aveda salon and Salon Today Top 200 winner since 1996. Book a color consultation and ask for Reagan, our balayage and dimensional-color specialist.

How much does balayage cost in Libertyville?

Balayage is custom-quoted at your consultation, because price depends on your hair's length, density, and starting color. You will leave the consult with an exact number.

How long does a balayage appointment take?

Plan for roughly 2.5 to 4 hours depending on length and how much lift you are after. The time is what makes the grow-out soft.

How often do I need to come back?

Most balayage clients stretch four to five months between full appointments, sometimes with a quick gloss in between to refresh tone.

Is balayage better than highlights for low maintenance?

Yes. The soft grow-out is the reason people choose it. If you would rather skip the six-week root touch-up, balayage is built for you.

Do you fix color from another salon?

Color correction is one of our specialties. Bring your history and a goal photo to the consultation and we will map the safest path to your color.
